Not too many surprises in this year’s winners with Ed Sheeran deservedly picking up two awards for his polished debut album and Adele also claiming two for her second album.
For me the best British single award should probably have gone to Adele too, but with the available choices in the category it certainly shouldn’t have gone the way of X-Factor losers One Direction.
Best British Group was certainly not Coldplay. Their latest album is nothing new or particularly exciting, and when I have seen them performing on TV over the last year, Chris Martin’s voice has sounded tired and often lacking the ability to hit the higher notes. I couldn’t make a choice from the other candidates, but maybe this was a weak category this year.
One other small gripe I had was the British Female Solo Artist category. Not with the winner, but with the fact that Florence & the Machine were in the category. How do they qualify as a solo artist? Surely they could have been a contender for Best British Group (as I mentioned above the category was weak), they would have been a better choice than Coldplay surely.
